About Us

The journey to motherhood I believed was simple. You get pregnant. You carry baby for 9 months. You deliver baby. End of story. That is not how my story went on my pregnancy journey with Baby K. I was diagnosed with gestational diabetes on December 13, 2019 during my first trimester! I had multiple medical professionals I had to see during my pregnancy. As with any profession, I had some who were really great and then there were others who made me defensive because of their delivery. For example, I remember being in my weekly session with a GD provider while they reviewed my food log. The provider looked at my paperwork with disgust and said if you don’t do better you are going to be on insulin. In my mind, I was like how rude and held the tears in. From that point on I truly hated meeting with them; furthermore, I would even start to fib on my logs because I couldn’t handle the judgment.

Between my Obstetrician, Maternal Fetal Medicine Doctor, Therapist, and Certified Diabetes Educator, I was overwhelmed with appointments and information. I would leave appointments in tears, anger, despair, etc. I felt like I was failing my unborn child because I would be doing really well with managing GD and then other times I was like F it or Forget this GD journey. You determine what you think my F it means

With the urging of my therapist, I had to take control and make the best of this GD journey and I did. If your doctors, medical professional, etc. aren’t answering your questions or they are not giving you the respect you deserve, find a new one, report them to their superiors, and/or provide them with constructive criticism to help them become better. We are going through enough already dealing with GD, we don’t need detrimental providers on our team.

I thought, “If only someone would just send me everything I need to monitor blood glucose, manage the paperwork I have to send back to doctors with my numbers and food diary, and help me stay motivated when it gets hard, GD would be so much easier!” That someone became me. The mission of The GD Mama is to help pregnant women with gestational diabetes make the best of this GD journey!
